We continue our series on the 10 commandments of a Retail Loss Prevention Agent as we walk through the sixth commandment on this episode.
I always teach new LP employees to have a good understanding of the law. I’m not just referring to the handful of penal codes regarding theft or fraud, but it’s also beneficial to know the definition of other violations of the law…just in case you need to fall back on one of them during the course of your duties.
So..the Sixth Commandment is “KNOW YOUR PENAL CODES”!
For example…vandalism is good one to be familiar with because many times the suspects we encounter may not actually steal any product but they may damage store product beyond repair or beyond resale value, thus causing a real monetary loss to the bottom line.
Some other crimes that you may have to deal with on the job are white collar crimes like writing checks on a bogus account…embezzlement…or maybe battery…assault with a deadly weapon…obviously burglary…especially after hours…and even armed robbery.
These are common crimes that are committed in a retail environment so its always in your best interest to know what crimes to charge your suspects with based on what you’re dealing with.
So…case in point…let me give you an excellent example of this commandment and how knowing my penal codes made a difference for me and my employer.
In this business…I like to say “Arm yourself with knowledge” and you’ll be two steps ahead of the bad guys. So you’ll definitely want to listen to this episode to meet the Drapery Diva.
Also we introduce our new “project” we’ve been working on behind the scenes. We are taking a limited amount of students to join our “Street Degree Academy”. This is an online course where you’ll get a series of lessons and real life video training related to protecting yourself from the bad guys lurking around nearly every corner in America.
